Sonia Judd LaMonica
A 2003 graduate of the University of Maryland, LaMonica was a three-year starter for the Terrapins at the Midfield and Attack. She earned first team All-America honors and was a candidate for the Tewaaraton Trophy as a senior after leading Maryland to the Atlantic Coast Conference championship. LaMonica won three ACC titles during her career and helped Maryland win the NCAA championship during the 2000 and 2001 seasons. She finished her college career with 111 goals, including 49 as a senior, and had 55 assists.
A native of Darlington, South Australia, LaMonica is a 2X Australian National Team member which won the World Cup championship in 2005 where she was named to the IFWLA All-World team. In addition, she was named as the U21 South Australian Sportswoman of the Year and was a two-time member of the South Australian A-Grade All-Star team.
2010 will mark Sonia's first season as a head coach. Mount St. Mary's (Emmitsburg, MD) women's lacrosse team will be looking to compete for the NEC Championship this year under her guidance. Before The Mount, LaMonica was an assistant coach with the Towson University Tigers. She helped guide them to a 15-5 record and the CAA Championship. Before Towson, Sonia served as an assistant coach at the University of Denver during the 2006 season, helping the Pioneers to a 15-5 record.
